Overview
The first digital bits I got to handle in 1980, an 8 inch IBM keypunch diskette that held 80 kilobytes (KB). Since it replaced 15 pounds or 3,000 punchcards, it was a quantum leap. I now have one camera that acquires almost a half a gigabyte of data per minute of recording.
Massive bit storage is a problem I solved a decade ago with an Unraid servers. The server for the Middle Earth project is named Story. In addition to providing volumes of secure storage, the Story server allows the running of virtual machines.
The second computer I see to be useful is one in the cloud. In addition to providing a public front end, it can be used for team functions such as video streaming, documentation, and a few other tools we will talk about later.
